Drylts – IJlst (Wymbritseradiel municipality, approximately 3,250 inhabitants) IJlst is one of the Frisian Eleven-cities, situated at the entrance to the extensive lake area of South-west Friesland. The old IJlst, surrounded and criss-crossed by canals is distinguished by its characteristic 'overtuinen' (bank-side gardens). The old town coat of arms shows a fully rigged three-mast barque and a wood carrier, which was used to supply ship-building wood to the Baltic countries. The silhouette of IJlst is punctuated by the ""De Rat"" wood sawmill, one of the few windmills in the Netherlands that can be seen working, and the striking former works chimney of the famous 'Nooitgedagtfabriek' factory. Various old buildings can also be found in IJlst; the most important of these is probably the 'Messingklopper' (built in 1669). IJlst is also the home port of the historic barge "Johanna Jacoba".
